Getting Started
When should families begin college planning?
Ideally, families begin planning by 8th or 9th grade, when academic choices, course rigor, and early extracurricular decisions start shaping a student's long-term profile. That said, we regularly work with families who begin later. Our role is to meet students where they are and build the strongest possible plan from that point forward. Early planning allows for smarter course selection, reduced stress in later years, more intentional extracurricular involvement, and greater flexibility in senior year.
Is it ever "too early" to work with a college advisor?
No, when done appropriately. Early advising is not about pressure or applications; it's about awareness, structure, and good decision-making. We focus on age-appropriate guidance that supports healthy development while keeping long-term goals in view.
Is it too late to start in 11th or 12th grade?
Not at all. While earlier planning offers more flexibility, we routinely support juniors and seniors with school list development, application strategy, essay writing and refinement, and deadline management and final review. Our approach adjusts based on timing and priorities.
Our Services & Approach
How is your approach different from school counselors?
School counselors provide valuable support but often work with hundreds of students, limiting the depth and personalization they can offer. We provide individualized, high-touch guidance, ongoing strategic planning, detailed application and essay support, and consistent accountability and follow-through. We complement, not replace, school counseling.
Do you guarantee college acceptances?
No. Ethical college advising does not include guarantees. Admissions decisions depend on many factors outside any advisor's control. What we do guarantee is a thoughtful, strategic process, honest and realistic guidance, strong execution and organization, and applications that reflect the student authentically and effectively.
How personalized is your advising?
Completely. Every student receives a customized plan based on their academic profile, interests and goals, learning style, timeline, and family priorities. We do not use templates or one-size-fits-all strategies.
How often do you meet with students and families?
Meeting frequency depends on the student's grade level and service plan. This may include regular scheduled check-ins, milestone-based meetings, and increased support during application season. Families always know what to expect and when.
Academic Planning & Testing
Do you help with course selection?
Yes. We guide students on course rigor and balance, honors, AP, IB, and dual enrollment decisions, and alignment between academics and intended pathways. Our goal is to help students challenge themselves appropriately, without burnout.
Do you offer SAT/ACT tutoring?
We focus on testing strategy, not direct tutoring: deciding whether to test or go test-optional, building an appropriate testing timeline, and coordinating with trusted test prep resources if needed.
How do you approach test-optional admissions?
Test-optional does not mean test-irrelevant. We help families understand when scores help or hurt, decide strategically whether to submit scores, and build strong applications regardless of testing outcomes.
Applications & Essays
Do you help with essays?
Yes, extensively. We support students through brainstorming and topic selection, draft development and revision, voice, structure, and clarity, and supplemental essay strategy. We guide students without writing for them, ensuring authenticity.
How many colleges should students apply to?
This varies, but most students apply to a balanced list of reach, match, and likely schools. We prioritize quality over quantity, strategic alignment, and manageable workloads.
Do you help with application organization and deadlines?
Absolutely. We provide structured timelines and checklists so nothing is missed. Families often cite organization and clarity as the biggest stress-reducers in our process.
Specialized Pathways
Do you support BS/MD and pre-professional tracks?
Yes. These pathways require early, intentional planning. We guide students through academic and testing benchmarks, relevant extracurricular development, timeline management, and application strategy for highly selective programs.
Do you work with student-athletes and NCAA recruitment?
Yes. We support student-athletes by helping them understand NCAA eligibility requirements, balance academics and athletics, develop realistic college lists, and navigate recruitment timelines and communication.
How do you support neurodiverse students?
We take a strength-based, supportive approach, focusing on organization and executive functioning systems, advocacy and accommodations guidance, college fit and campus support evaluation, and reducing overwhelm while maintaining structure. Each student's needs are addressed individually.
Logistics & Practical Questions
Do you work with students outside Florida?
Yes. While we serve many Florida families, we work with students nationwide and internationally through virtual advising.
Are meetings virtual or in person?
We offer both, depending on location and preference. Many families choose a hybrid model.
How long does the advising relationship last?
Some families work with us for a single application cycle; others partner with us for multiple years. The duration depends on the student's starting point and goals.
How do we get started?
We begin with a consultation to understand your student's current standing, identify goals and priorities, and recommend the most appropriate level of support.
